Sold on Oldies: Miles Davis – Summertime

Everyone knows this song. It’s the sultry one, the one with the crooning make-love-to-the-night tones of Ella Fitzgerald smothered all over it right? Wrong.

After trawling through an excessive amount of Donna Summers and Beethoven compilations (not together) in charity shop record boxes the other week, I found the gem that is Miles Davis’ ‘Porgy and Bess’ and ‘Summertime’ will never be the same.

Pacey and jazzy in both the genre and joyous senses of the word, when performed by the inimitable Davis this song really does sound like the season it’s named for. Easy breezy jazz deliciousness for a wet and windy day.
