Lana Del Rey’s always been fairly blunt when it comes to love, but never has she been more aloof and direct than in ‘High By The Beach’, the second release from her upcoming album ‘Honeymoon’. Gone are the lavish strings and Hollywood opulence, replaced instead with a bare and seemingly Grimes inspired synth track (the two toured together over the summer) overlaid by Lana’s haunting whisperings as she sends packing the lover who’s now ‘just another one of my problems, because you got out of hand’. Full of breathy cynicism atop a monochromatic palette, Del Rey’s comment to Billboard that the new track takes a ‘noirish’ turn hits the nail on its haughty head. A welcome and delicious respite then from her usual decadence and romantic helplessness, this powerful turn marks a big shake-up in the Del Rey cannon. Watch out world.
